UPDATE: ROAD REOPENS – Major highway closed by spill of chicken parts

Part of a major highway southeast of Gainesville was closed for more than an hour Thursday about noon after a poultry rendering truck spilled part of its load onto the highway. But the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says it was not the fault of the truck driver.

ORIGINAL HCSO FACEBOOK POST:

“Use caution in the area of Athens Highway (US 129) northbound in the area of Gaines Mill Road. A truck carrying poultry viscera…had to brake suddenly, spilling contents of the trailer into the roadway. No one was injured.

Our deputies say the vehicle is on the shoulder of the road; however, the poultry entrails are blocking the entire right-hand lane and part of the left lane. HCSO is directing traffic and the DOT has been called to assist with clean-up.”
