Maintenance of Highlands to Islands Trail; Gville street closing; Another Hall Co. fire; 3 hit by car, one killed at shopping center

*The Oakwood City Council Monday night is expected to consider approval of its responsibilities in helping maintain the Highlands to Islands Multi-Use Trail. The Oakwood part of the trail includes Downtown Oakwood Trails and Thurmond Tanner Trails. Gainesville, Flowery Branch, and Hall County will also share in maintaining the trail.

*Banks Street in Gainesville at the Queen City Parkway intersection will be closed to thru traffic Tuesday, 9:00-5:00, to accommodate work being done by the Gainesville Water Resources Department.

*Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) responded to the day’s third residential fire in the county Sunday night. It was in the 5000 block of Britt Whitmire Road and involved a mobile home, which was destroyed. There was no one at home, however, the fire did displace two people. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. (See separate story about the other fires.)

*A juvenile whose name has not been released was hit by a car and killed in the parking lot at the Mall of Georgia Sunday afternoon. Gwinnett Police say two others were struck and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not released any information on the cause of the accident.
