Former Gville businessman, longtime supporter of Boy Scouts dies

A former Gainesville resident and businessman, who was a devoted and longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts and one of the founders of Lakeview Academy, has died.

Fleet Johnston, Sr., passed away peacefully on June 6, according to his obituary.

Johnston was singled out more than once for special recognition by the Scouts for his unwavering support of the organization over the years.

He was a former Gainesville banker, radio station owner (WNRJ now WLBA) and civic leader.
