Billy Burrell, who spent decades waking up people in Cornelia and elsewhere in northeast Georgia, has died.
Burrell, who was 96, did so from the studios at WCON in Cornelia starting in 1959 and didn’t stop until two years ago, when he was 94.
“Through his morning devotion, “Sunshine Melodies,” Billy shared a message of hope, faith, and encouragement that reached far beyond what he could ever have known,” says a posting on the station’s Facebook page. “Through his witness and his exhortations, lives were changed, hearts were encouraged, and people were drawn closer to the Lord.”
Burrell’s career in radio lasted 73 years, starting at WLET in Toccoa in 1951.
