LOCAL POLICE BEAT: Charges filed in fatal accident; prescription forgery suspect arrested

*William Emery Olmstead, 42, of Cleveland, has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to maintain lane following an investigation into a deadly crash in Hall County on May 4. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams says the investigation shows that Olmstead turned left from Hog Mountain Road into the wrong lane on Credit Drive, striking a moped stopped at the traffic light. The moped operator, Christopher Lee Powell, 36, Flowery Branch died two weeks later of injuries suffered in the crash. Olmstead turned himself in Monday and has been freed on $10,000 bond.

*Amir Hasaan Lackey, 21, was picked up Monday at the Dawson County Jail by Hall County sheriff’s deputies on warrants issued by Gainesville Police charging him in a prescription forgery case. “He was picked-up on warrants from two cases we investigated earlier this year,” police spokesman Justin Martin said Tuesday.  “In both instances, Lackey used forged prescriptions to illegally obtain controlled substances from pharmacies.” Charges include two counts of Forgery in the First Degree.
