Each Friday or Saturday the past several weeks in cooperation with the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC) we have been providing an update on the changing leaves in our corner of the state for all you leaf-lookers.
This will be the last installment this year and it looks like the weather will be spectacular for a quick look, especially in the lower elevations such as around Gainesville, Clermont, Murrayville, etc.
Higher elevations above 3,000 feet are in the middle of peak color change this week, the GFC says. Elevations below 3,000 feet are entering peak period.
Peak was slightly behind this year due to warmer weather and drought conditions.
PERCENTAGE OF LEAF CHANGE:
- Above 3000’ – 99%
- Below 3,000’ – 85%
Color this week is spectacular but above average temperatures will accelerate leaf drop along with heavy rain in the forecast.
