GWINNETT POLICE NEWS RELEASE:

“On Thursday, March 7, at around 1:30 p.m., an officer assigned to the North Precinct was dispatched to a domestic dispute at a home on Brookefall Landing in unincorporated Suwanee. The officer met with a woman who said that over the past two days, she was assaulted, threatened, and held at gunpoint by her husband in their home. The husband, Lance Bradley Nelson (age 47, Suwanee), was armed with at least two firearms, a rifle and a handgun. The incident began as a verbal argument that shifted into a physical assault. The wife felt as though she could not safely leave the home.

The suspect became distracted in the afternoon of March 7, and the wife fled the residence to a neighbor’s home for help. Her husband fled the home in a grey Mercedes SUV.

Nearby officers found the suspect’s vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the suspect sped away at a high rate of speed. The Aviation Unit was requested to help track the vehicle’s movements.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m., the suspect was seen trying to enter the parking deck at Gas South Arena (Duluth). After discovering the parking structure was closed, he proceeded towards Sugarloaf Parkway. He was met by two marked patrol cars who tried to disable his vehicle. Following a collision with both patrol cars, the suspect’s vehicle lost a tire and began to spin. The suspect eventually turned right onto Sugarloaf Parkway and collided with a grey passenger car and a pickup truck.

The suspect crawled out his passenger side door and ran from the scene. He was pursued on foot by the responding officers and taken into custody in front of a nearby hotel. The motorists of the other vehicles did not have any apparent injuries.

Lance Bradley Nelson was charged with Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of Certain Crimes, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Family Violence Battery, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and Obstruction. Following his arrest, he was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries he sustained in the collisions. Once he is discharged from the hospital, he will be booked into the Gwinnett County Jail.”
