Two landfill items totaling a combined 239 acres on the southside of the city are on the agenda for the April 8 meeting of the Gainesville Planning & Appeals Board (GPAB).
GWAR Gainesville Landfill, LLC, which already operates an inert (construction & demolition and land clearing debris) is asking the city to annex a 105 acres tract on the south side of the intersection of Athens Highway, Old County Dump Road and Athens Street and to establish a zoning of Heavy Industrial (H-I), with a special use). Planned use of the property: Landfill (Construction & Demolition debris) and a composting facility.
The second is a request from city officials to rezone a 134-acre tract located on the east side of Monroe Drive, north of Allen Creek Road, from Residential-I-A (R-I-A) and Planned Unit Development (P-U-D) to Heavy Industrial (H-I), with a special use. The reason for the request: Landfill (Construction & Demolition) and composting facility.
That is in the area where the current county landfill is located but a spokeswoman for the county said Friday “This has nothing to do with our current landfill. This would be a question for the city.”
A spokeswoman for the city said earlier in the week she would check on it from the city’s standpoint but by week’s end did not have any information.
