The drought tightened its hold on Georgia the past week and the level of Lake Lanier lost another half-a-foot.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says there was little change in conditions in northeast Georgia but overall, “moderately dry” conditions grew by ten percent while “severe” conditions increased by three percent. And 99.99 percent of the state is now affected, to some degree, by drought conditions.
Lake Lanier, by the way, is now one-and-a-half feet lower than it was Sept. 1 and has lost two-and-a-half feet since June 1. The reading as of this morning was 1064.1.
