Kroger layoffs; Jailers arrested; Something new from Coke; ‘Jaws’ is alive and well

*Supermarket giant Kroger is laying off an unspecified number of employees. Kroger has 166 grocery stores across 76 cities in Georgia.

*Three former Fulton County jailers are accused of mistreating inmates. The women have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and other counts after an investigation began last month.

*Atlanta-based Coca-Cola is releasing what it describes as a “new healthier soda.” The company has launched its first prebiotic soda called Simply Pop. Prebiotic sodas contain fiber and help with the microbiomes in our gut. The new offering comes when major soft drink companies are marketing healthier alternatives to their usual fair, with brands like Olipop and Poppi. Simply Pop debuts later this month and will be available online from Amazon Fresh nationwide and at retailers in the Southeast.

*A very large great white shark is being tracked off the coast of Georgia and Florida. Researchers have tagged the shark and released it back into the ocean in the western North Atlantic. The male shark has been named Contender and is about 14 feet long, which is the largest male great white shark ever tracked. The group doing the tracking says he will provide valuable real-time data for researchers for the next five years. For updates, visit Ocearch.org/tracker.
