Joint investigation leads to arrest of alleged child molester

An investigation by Habersham and Rabun County authorities has resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old Cornelia man on child sex charges.

According to Rabun sheriff Chad Nichols his office recently began investigating the case and the incidents that began in late 2023.

The matter came to the attention of authorities, Nichols said, March 4 after a complaint from one of the victim’s parents. The youngster told investigators that a close family friend, David Roy Summers was spending time alone with her “at a residence” in Habersham County and taking her to job sites in Rabun County and that during their time together he inappropriately touched her and had sexual intercourse with her.

Later during questioning by investigators, Summers admitted spending time with the girl and taking her on trips to job sites. Based on that, Sheriff Nichols said, Summers was arrested and charged with one count of Child Molestation and one cout of Sexual Battery and lodged in the Habersham County Jail. Rabun County authorities charged him with three county of Child Molestation.
