The Jackson County Sheriff said Wednesday her office has now investigated 13 school threats since last Wednesday’s mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Barrow County.
Janis Mangrum released that figure as she reported yet another threat.
“On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, an investigation was opened on another student who sent a Snap Chat to a student at Legacy Knoll Middle School, in reference to a threatening message,” Sheriff Mangum wrote in an email. “This student was interviewed, charged and detained at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center today.”
She said four of the students who have been investigated have been detained so far.
“Several have had Disruption of Public Schools and others were charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts. When a juvenile is charged, we have to notify the Department of Juvenile Justice, and it is determined by them if the juvenile will be detained. “With each release that has been made, we have asked repeatedly for parents to talk to their students about the seriousness of the threats that are being made involving our schools.
And she said “We will continue to investigate these cases and charge when we have the evidence to do so.”
