Injured child dies

Knox Skelton has died from injuries sustained in Wednesday’s crash at Limestone Marketplace.

The 22-month-old was being carried by his father, Samuel Skelton, an off-duty Gainesville firefighter, when they were struck by a vehicle attempting to park at the eastside shopping center.

The child was transported by air to a children’s hospital in Atlanta. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, Knox succumbed to his injuries, GainesvillePolice reported late Wednesday night.

The driver of the vehicle, 68-year-old Teresa Parker, was attempting to park in a handicap parking space when she inadvertently accelerated over the curb, striking the father and son, police said.

“The Gainesville Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the Skelton family, their loved ones, and the Gainesville Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time,” a post on the police department’s Facebook page says.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
