A retired mail carrier appealed to his Facebook friends and the general public Saturday to help Hall County’s homeless as an arctic blast of cold air bears down on Georgia.
“Today my heart was humbled,” Wayne Pass said. “We visited an area where homeless folks were. Tents everywhere. People just like you and me. People just trying to survive. They were so happy to see someone care.”
The camp he and his wife visited is the one at the corner of Dorsey Street and Industrial Boulevard.
“There was someone cutting firewood, getting ready for the frigid temperatures,” Pass said, adding, “I’m asking for anyone who will help. Food, blankets, gloves, hats – even firewood. Let’s show God’s love. Please help. It will surely bless your heart.”
He said they were simply “overwhelmed” at the number of tents. “We were shocked, saddened, and humbled at their living conditions.”
Pass said anyone who wants to help can leave supplies at the front gate when you first pull off the road on Dorsey Street.
Asked if they represented any organization or were just doing this on their own, he said, “We are just concerned citizens.”
And did he fell led to the site or was it just happenstance that they ended up there?
“I believe God put them in our hearts,” he replied.
