Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors have opened the remaining segment of the new third lane on Interstate 85 northbound in Jackson County from U.S. 129 to U.S. 441, just in time for the Labor Day travel period.
The 13-mile project is widening the interstate northbound and southbound from two to three lanes between the two highway exits. Construction is also replacing and widening four mainline bridges in two locations.
With six miles of the southbound portion of the project already open to traffic, the project’s overall completion is anticipated in September.
