*Rick Jackson is campaigning to become Georgia’s next governor with an $87 million investment going into his campaign; it’s reportedly the largest ad buy in the race. His campaign aims to secure votes across all 159 counties, according to spokesman Garrison Douglas. In response, a spokesperson for Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms criticized Jackson – suggesting he’s trying to buy the election.
*The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) plans to add two truck-only lanes along Interstate 75, spanning 41 miles starting from the I-75/I-475 interchange in Monroe County (near Macon) up to State Route 20 in Henry County in the south metro Atlanta area. The project aims to increase “efficiency and safety” for truck drivers, according to GDOT. 13 WMAZ reports the work is scheduled to begin next year and be completed by 2032.
*Eighteen-year-old Carter Camacho of Smyrna will be sentenced in December after pleading guilty Monday to unlawful possession of a firearm on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. He told officers he was going to speak to a member of Congress when he was stopped with the loaded weapon back in February. Camacho also entered a guilty plea to possessing child pornography.
*The University of Georgia School of Medicine has welcomed 64 students to its inaugural class. More than 2,000 applications were submitted during a condensed two-week admissions cycle. School officials interviewed 235 prospective students before extending offers of admission.
