*Dun Terrius Bradford, 55, of Sale City was sentenced Friday to 120 months in federal prison after being convicted of 69 counts of illegally possessing dogs for fighting purposes, one count of manufacturing and possessing with intent to distribute cocaine base, and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of those offenses. The 67 pit bull-type dogs rescued from Bradford’s residence were, at the time of the offense, the third-most dogs rescued in any federal case.
*A 29-year-old woman is facing charges in the death of her child, who died after being left in a hot car. Deja Coleman was arrested this week and charged with second-degree murder and child cruelty. Capt. Deena Pauly with the Lawrenceville Police Department said Coleman left her one-year-old son in the car on Wednesday while she worked at Northside Gwinnett Hospital. Officers broke a window in the car to get inside after an employee noticed the child, but it was too late, as temperatures inside reached as high as 117-degrees.
*State Rep. Sharon Henderson (D-Newton County has pleaded guilty to unemployment assistance fraud in federal court related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Henderson admitted to making false statements to fraudulently obtain thousands of dollars from a federal program intended to help workers during the crisis. Atlanta News First reports that Henderson collected nearly$18,000 in unemployment benefits by falsely claiming she worked for Henry County Schools, despite only working as a substitute teacher for five days in 2018.
*Georgia recorded at least one tornado during Tuesday night’s storms. An EF-Zero touched down in Pickens County. The National Weather Service reports wind speeds reached a maximum of 85-miles-an hour.
*The fire, which initially forced the closing of a section of I-95 due to heavy smoke and zero visibility, is now 90% contained. A large wildfire is burning in Camden County after lightning struck a marshy area earlier this week.
