Hospital patient ends up in jail because of her clumsiness

A patient at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville ended up in jail after police say she dropped some illegal drugs on the floor of her room – in the presence of a nurse.

“Subject was a patient at NEGMC,” Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said. “She got up from her bed to go the to restroom and dropped approximately 29 grams of methamphetamine.”

Warrants were obtained and Avery Marie Ergle, 29, was picked up once released from the hospital, Lt. Holbrook added. She’s been charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession and use of Drug-Related Objects.

Holbrook said the trafficking charge “comes based on the amount (of the drug) she had.” He said Ergle was in the hospital for a “no-related (to drugs) matter.”

The sheriff’s department reports that Ergle, who was arrested Monday, was released from jail Tuesday morning on $1,300 bond.
