Hoschton teen recovering after being hit in head by baseball

Just days after the death of a Gainesville High baseball player injured in an on-field accident, a Hoschton teenager is on the road to recovery after a similar incident.

Luke Stonecypher, a student at Gwinnett County’s Mill Creek High School, was hit in the temple with a pitch estimated to be traveling at 90-miles-an-hour. It happened at an off-campus training facility December 7 as the team was getting ready for a pitching lesson.

Doctors performed emergency brain surgery on the 17-year-old catcher.

Jerry Medina, the Gainesville High player who was hit in the head by a bat during a practice session Thanksgiving week, died earlier this month after being in a coma since the time of the accident. ‘His heart stopped last night…(he) will always be in God’s hands’; injured GHS baseball player dies 97.5 Glory FM | North Georgia’s Family Radio Station (wgtjradio.com)
