Hoschton man facing drug- and traffic-related charges as well as False Report of Crime

A 63-year-old Hoschton man has been charged by Oakwood Police with False Report of a Crime and the state patrol is charging him with several drug-and traffic-related offenses – 11 in all – including hit-and-run.

Larry Davis’ troubles with the law began in February when he reported that his vehicle had been stolen, according to Oakwood Detective Sgt. Stewart Webb.

OAKWOOD POLICE NARRATIVE:

“(At about 2:00 p.m. on February 23) Davis filed a police report in reference to his vehicle being stolen (the previous day from) the Quality Inn located at 3469 Mundy Mill Road. Mr. Davis stated that he had been staying at the Quality Inn and had returned home to feed his dogs. He left his vehicle running in the parking lot and came back out to find it gone.

A follow-up investigation determined that the Georgia State Patrol had responded to a single vehicle crash in a ditch in North Hall County on February 6. Troopers handled the investigation and impounded the vehicle. Sgt. Webb said Oakwood Police confirmed that the vehicle had been impounded since that day.

Sgt. Webb said he followed up with the front desk at the Quality Inn and recovered security camera footage that showed Davis arriving and leaving in his vehicle on Feb. 6, adding that he interviewed Davis, who stuck to his story that the vehicle had been stolen.

“I later obtained a ‘False Report of a Crime’ arrest warrant for Larry Davis,” Webb added.
