Once again local governments that draw water for their water systems from Lake Lanier are hearing reports of foul smelling and tasting water. And once again the culprit, officials say, is that twice-a-year visit from algae blooms.
Complaints from water customers in Forsyth County prompted officials there to recently advise, as they have in the past, that there is nothing wrong with the water, that it’s perfectly safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc.
It’s that twice-a-year, Spring and Fall, phenomenon known as “lake turnover,” caused when cool and warm waters collide as the seasons change.
