“Hurricane Helene is forecast to make landfall (in the Apalachicola area of Florida) as a major hurricane later this evening.
Impacts will begin across north and central Georgia later this afternoon, and preparations for (at least) tropical storm conditions need to be completed promptly if not already done. #gawx
Conditions (across central and north Georgia) are expected to deteriorate this afternoon and peak overnight into tomorrow. Rush to complete preparations if not already complete.
Impacts expected:
*Heavy rainfall leading to flooding
*Damaging wind gusts that will likely lead to power outages and swaths of downed trees, especially EAST of the storm’s center.
*Short-lived tornadoes.”
A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for parts of south and central Georgia. Gainesville and the rest of the state remain under a Tropical Storm Warning.
