HCSO: White Co. woman charged with financial exploitation of an elderly woman

Karen Dolores Dobbs-Gresham, 61, of Sautee-Nacoochee, was arrested over the weekend by Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) detectives on charges of financial exploitation of an elderly Hoschton woman. The officers began their investigation on February 25, after receiving a report from Adult Protective Service (APS).

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“The daughter of the 93-year-old victim filed the report after she found evidence Dobbs-Gresham had used the victim’s bank accounts and credit cards to pay various personal expenses. The suspect and the victim had a longtime friendship, and Dobbs-Gresham often provided care for the victim.

The investigation determined Dobbs-Gresham had stolen a financial transaction card from the victim. In addition, investigators determined Dobbs-Gresham had forged the victim’s signature on a car title, illegally transferring ownership of the victim’s Hyundai Tucson to herself. They also determined the suspect had stolen an iPad belonging to the victim.

During the execution of a search warrant at Dobbs-Gresham’s residence on April 1, investigators seized the vehicle, an iPad and several personal documents belonging to the victim.

Arrest warrants were issued on April 20 for the following crimes:

  • Exploitation of an elder person (felony)
  • Financial transaction card theft (felony)
  • Theft by conversion (felony)
  • First degree forgery (felony)
  • Theft by taking (misdemeanor)

Dobbs-Gresham was arrested on the warrants Sunday, May 3. She was released from the Hall County Jail on May 4 after posting a bond of $6,500.”

A sheriff’s office spokeswoman said late Tuesday the warrants did not specify the dollar amount involved in the case.
