A Forsyth County man has been arrested for using his company credit card to steal thousands of dollars for his personal use – possibly closed to a million dollars, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Chad Evans, 46, of Cumming, faces one (1) count of theft by conversion and 36 counts of unauthorized use of a financial transaction card; the charges are felonies. He remains in the Hall County Jail with a bond of $221,900.
On Tuesday, officials with Oakwood Arrow Auto Auction reported their suspicions of the thefts to a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy who has worked for the company in an extra-duty capacity for several years. The deputy launched an investigation and reports he quickly found evidence that Evans had used his company credit card at a convenience store to purchase money orders at the same time he was making gasoline purchases for the business. Evans would take the money orders and deposit them into a personal checking account, the officer reported.
The investigation to date has determined Evans used the credit card 36 times from March 18 until his arrest Thursday. During that time, he used the credit card to purchase money orders totaling $30,542.24. Because Evans had possession of the credit card since December 2023, investigators believe the total theft amount could reach more than $700,000. The investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, deputies met with company officials and Evans at the business. The company credit card was confiscated during the meeting. Evans was taken into custody following the meeting and taken to the Hall County Jail.
