HCSO: Motorcyclist seriously injured in weekend crash

A Hall County man was seriously injured when his motorcycle wrecked over the weekend in North Hal, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO)l.

Austin Enoch West, 25, of Gainesville, suffered serious but non-lifE threatening injuries in the crash that happened late Saturday night in Clermont.

According to the preliminary investigation, West was operating his motorcycle eastbound on King Street about a quarter mile from Cleveland Highway just after 11:45 when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

West was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. He remained hospitalized Monday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

He is the recipient of many Associated Press awards and is a former judge of state and national Associated Press broadcast news contests. In 2005, he was presented with the Georgia Associated Press Broadcasters Association’s President’s Award for Excellence in Journalism and in 2019 was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.

He lives in Gainesville with his wife of 52 years, the former Sandra McKnight of Clio, Alabama, and they have one child, a daughter, Lisa, who lives in Cumming with her family.
