A Gainesville man remains in the Hall County Jail after a domestic assault last week that left a 51‑year‑old woman with severe facial injuries. Sidney James Woods Jr., 42, is being held on a bond of $14,900.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Rose Petal Street late Thursday after the victim’s daughter reported that Woods had assaulted her mother and then left the residence. Investigators determined the two were in a bedroom when an argument escalated. Woods became angry and bit the woman on the face, tearing off part of her lower lip. He then left the home only to be arrested a short time later.
Two deputies found Woods walking a short distance away, wearing different clothing than what witnesses described during the assault. At the residence, deputies discovered burned clothing and shoes in a backyard fire pit and determined Woods had set them on fire before leaving.
Woods is charged with aggravated battery under the Family Violence Act and tampering with evidence.
