HCSO: Gville woman jailed after pointing loaded pistol at firefighters

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“Melani Lynne Stein, 27, of Gainesville, was arrested following a Wednesday night traffic accident on Clarks Bridge Road where she threatened two Hall County firefighters who had been called to the scene to help her.

According to the preliminary investigation, shortly before 10:30 p.m., Stein was traveling alone in her vehicle on Clarks Bridge Road near North Browning Bridge Road when she accelerated and drove off the side of the roadway, driving through a fence and striking a tree. Emergency personnel were called to the scene, and as two firefighters with Hall County Fire Rescue attempted to help Stein out of her vehicle, she grabbed a loaded pistol from the passenger seat of her vehicle and pointed it at them. She dropped the pistol without firing it.

Stein was first taken to the hospital for evaluation and then transported to the Hall County Jail. She has been charged with the following offenses:

·         Aggravated assault-felony (2 counts)

·         DUI drugs less safe

·         Driving too fast for conditions

·         Failure to maintain lane

·         Duty to stop upon striking fixture

Stein remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.”
