Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gainesville man Sunday morning after he failed to stop for them just minutes after refusing to stop for a Gainesville Police officer.
Warrant Service Unit deputies received a be-on-the-lookout from the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) about 10:45 for a red Chevrolet Cruze after its driver reportedly failed to yield to a GPD traffic stop. Gainesville officers did not pursue the vehicle.
A short time later, deputies located the car on E.E. Butler Parkway near Jesse Jewell Parkway. When deputies activated their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, they say the driver continued for a short distance before deputies brought the vehicle to a stop by merging in front of it.
Deputies identified the driver as Guinsly Charles, 38, of Gainesville. During the initial investigation, deputies determined Charles knowingly failed to stop for the traffic stop. They also found he was driving with only a Class CP learner’s permit and was not accompanied by a properly licensed driver, as required by law.
Deputies cited Charles for fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and driving in violation of Class CP permit restrictions.
They took him to the Hall County Jail for booking. He remains held on $1,300 bond and an immigration detainer.
