HCSO: ‘Extremely’ intoxicated man attacks two deputies, is tased, makes obscene gestures toward 2 hospital nurses, finally jailed

Jose Carmen Moreno, 30, of Gainesville remains in the Hall County Jail on charges related to an incident of public drunkenness last week that ended up with him being tased and charged with public indecency but not before going down without a fight.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Patrol deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) first responded to a call Thursday just before 4:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Sawyer Mill Drive.

When they arrived, they encountered Moreno walking in the neighborhood with a liquor bottle in his hand. Moreno appeared to be extremely intoxicated, stumbling and providing incoherent answers to questions about his identity and his address. As deputies spoke with Moreno, he swung the bottle, striking one deputy on the side of the head with the bottle. When Moreno refused commands to get on the ground for the purpose of arrest, deputies tased him to gain control of him.

Moreno was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Because Moreno’s blood alcohol level was higher than acceptable for jail admission, he had to remain at the hospital until the level decreased. While he was at the hospital, he began touching his genitalia and making lewd gestures at nursing staff. When the deputy on duty attempted to restrict Moreno’s movements, Moreno struck the deputy in the mouth with a closed fist, drawing blood.

Just before 12:30 a.m. the next day, Moreno was transported to the Hall County Jail on charges of public drunkenness and public indecency, both misdemeanors. He also faces two felony counts of obstruction for striking two deputies. Moreno remains in jail on an immigration hold.”
