The time of year is approaching when deer become more active and on the road in Georgia which usually leads to more traffic accidents or near accidents involving them. And earlier this week, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigated two deer-vehicle encounters that left one motorist injured and a main highway blocked during morning rush hour.
In the first incident, a woman was taken to the hospital after a 3:00 a.m. accident Wednesday on Clarks Bridge Road. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said she told deputies the accident happened when a deer ran into the road and her car hit it. She sustained “visible” injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville for treatment, Williams added.
In the second, deputies responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer that went into a ditch on Cleveland Highway early Thursday. The wreck happened at roughly 4:30 near Hub Head Road.
“The driver, 23, of Athens, told deputies he was southbound on Cleveland Highway and went off the roadway while avoiding a deer,” sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth said. “The tractor trailer went into a ditch and hit several small trees and underbrush. The driver did not report any injuries.”
But Cleveland Highway was blocked from about 6:30 and 9:30 while a wrecker crew removed the truck and cleaned up debris.
