HCSO: Couple takes domestic spat on the road

A Cornelia couple is free on bond after they were arrested last week following a domestic dispute that escalated into several offenses while the two traveled in separate vehicles in North Hall, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Monday.

The investigation began Friday morning when deputies noticed an SUV with collision damage stopped for an extended period at Dean Street and Main Street in Clermont. Inside was Katie Nicole Sosebee, 22, along with her 2‑year‑old son. Deputies later determined the SUV had been damaged during a confrontation earlier that day with Joseph Wayne Sammons, 29.

According to investigators, Sosebee had driven to a residence on Dahlonega Highway to confront Sammons. He left in a pickup, and she followed. On a dirt road nearby, Sammons approached her SUV, took her phone and struck her in the face before leaving. Sosebee pursued him again, stopping in front of his truck. Sammons drove around her, intentionally hit her SUV, threw her phone from his vehicle and left the area.

Later, deputies found Sammons at a residence on Saddle Club Road and arrested him. He faces felony charges including aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act, robbery by sudden snatching and criminal damage to property, along with several misdemeanor counts.

While deputies spoke with Sosebee in Clermont, they detected the odor of alcohol. The Georgia State Patrol conducted a DUI investigation and arrested her. She was cited for reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, passing in a no‑passing zone and improper stopping.

The son was placed with a friend, the sheriff’s office said.
