HCSO: Caught racing on 985 at 100+ mph

U P D AT E: HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“Three suspects from Loganville were arrested over the weekend after a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy spotted the three racing in the southbound lanes of I-985 in the Flowery Branch area.

The preliminary investigation showed the deputy was on routine patrol just after midnight Sunday, March 3, when he observed three vehicles lined up in a single lane of travel. As the vehicles approached the Wade Orr Road overpass, the drivers turned off their headlights and began speeding down the interstate. The deputy, who clocked the speed of the vehicles at 105 mph, activated his emergency equipment and passed the racing vehicles. After passing the vehicles, the deputy used his patrol vehicle to block them from continuing the race just before the Friendship Road exit.

Moises Hernandez-Garcia, 21, Daniel Aponte, 20, and Benjamin Garcia-Diaz were all charged with the following traffic offenses.

·         Racing on highway or streets

·         Speeding

·         Reckless driving first offense

·         Headlights and other lights required

·         Window tint violation

Hernandez-Garcia faces an additional display of license plate charge for obscuring his license plate with a tinted tag cover.”
