HCSO busts 2 on charges of exploiting the elderly

Two people have been arrested in recent days in separate cases on elder abuse charges by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

“Billy Lee Davenport, 53, of Gainesville, remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond following his arrest Thursday, March 28, 2024, in a theft investigation.

Arrest warrants indicate Mr. Davenport took $2,500 from a 66-year-old female victim, leading her to believe he was selling her a vehicle. Instead, Mr. Strickland sold the vehicle to another party and then refused to return the victim’s money. The incident occurred on Feb. 7, 2024.

As a result of the investigation, Mr. Strickland was charged with theft by deception and exploitation of an elder person, both felony offenses.”

“Stacy Lynn Strickland, 39, of Gainesville, was arrested Thursday, March 28, 2024, on charges related to a domestic violence incident.

A Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy responded to a residence on Melinda Lane just before 12:20 p.m. in response to a 911 call from a victim at the home. The preliminary investigation determined Ms. Strickland assaulted two adult men at the residence. She pushed one of the victims, age 65, out of a door at the residence. She attempted to strangle the other victim, age 29, by placing her hands around his throat. The assaults occurred in the presence of a young child.

As a result, Ms. Strickland was charged with felony aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act (FVA), felony exploitation of an elder person, simple battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA) and third degree cruelty to children.

Ms. Strickland remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond as of Friday afternoon.”
