HCSO: 3-year burglary investigation ends with Fla. man’s arrest

A Florida man has been extradited from the Sunshine State and returned to Gainesville to face burglary charges dating back to 2020.

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“Steven Mack Diamond, 54, of Pensacola, Florida, was taken into custody in Hall County on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023 to face charges in two residential burglaries on Pine Shore Circle in Gainesville that occurred more than three years ago.

Both burglaries occurred on April 14, 2020. In one of the burglaries, the homeowner reported the theft of jewelry, including a necklace with a gold coin. In the other case, at another home in the neighborhood, the homeowner reported the theft of a set of kitchen knives.

Evidence uncovered during the investigation revealed Diamond had been in both residences. Once Diamond’s identity was determined, investigators were able to tie him to the sale of the stolen coin at a pawn shop in South Georgia on the same date the burglaries occurred in Hall County. Warrants for Diamond’s arrest were issued by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) on April 9, 2021, a year after the crimes were first reported. The suspect was also wanted in other states for similar crimes, according to the findings of the investigation.

Diamond is being held at the Hall County Jail with no bond.”

HCSO spokeswoman B.J. Williams said Friday Diamond was being held in Santa Rosa County, Fla., prior to his extradition.
