HCSD: Plans to change some school attendance zones

Plans are being made to change the school attendance zones for some elementary schools in Hall County as new and consolidated schools come online. And officials have now laid out details of those plans, a couple of public hearings on them and plans for school properties that will be vacated. HALL CO. SCHOOL DISTRICT ADVISORY:

“The Hall County Board of Education will hold two public hearings, one at 6:00 P.M. on March 11, 2024,
and the second at 6:00 P.M. on March 25, 2024. The meeting on March 11, 2024 will be held at the West Hall High School Performing Arts Center, 5500 McEver Rd. Oakwood, GA 30566, at 6:00 P.M.

The meeting on March 25, 2024 will be held at the East Hall High School Performing Arts Center, 3534 East Hall Road Gainesville, GA 30507, at 6:00 P.M.

The purpose of the hearings will be to allow a full discussion of the Superintendent’s
recommendation to change student attendance lines for White Sulphur Elementary School, Riverbend Elementary School, Oakwood Elementary School, Martin Elementary School, McEver Elementary School, Sardis Elementary School, Myers Elementary School, Sugar Hill Elementary School, Tadmore Elementary School and Lanier Elementary School.

If the recommendation is approved, the students currently attending White Sulphur Elementary School
and Riverbend Elementary School would attend Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School upon completion of construction. Select students from Oakwood Elementary School would attend Martin Elementary School. Select students from McEver Elementary School would attend Sardis Elementary School. Select students from Myers Elementary School would attend Sugar Hill Elementary School. Select students from Sugar Hill Elementary School would attend Tadmore Elementary School. Select students from Sardis Elementary School would attend Lanier Elementary School.

Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School is a Kindergarten through 5th Grade school with a capacity of
1050 students with an anticipated 775 students moving from White Sulphur Elementary School and Riverbend Elementary School. Total cost for the construction of Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School is $36,000,667.00. Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary school is being constructed from proceeds from the 2020 Bond Referendum and ESPLOST V proceeds.

The Board of Education anticipates using the existing Riverbend Elementary School and White Sulphur
Elementary School for other instructional or administrative purposes.

118 students are proposed to move from Oakwood Elementary School to Martin Elementary School.
Martin Elementary School has a capacity of 825 students with a current enrollment of 618 students.

91 students are proposed to move from McEver Elementary School to Sardis Elementary School. Sardis has a capacity of 750 students with a current enrollment of 550 students.

75 students are proposed to move from Myers Elementary School to Sugar Hill Elementary School. Sugar Hill has a capacity of 800 students with a current enrollment of 653 students.

49 Students are proposed to move from Sugar Hill Elementary School to Tadmore Elementary
School. Tadmore Elementary School has a capacity of 775 students with a current enrollment of 481 students. 41 students are proposed to move from Sardis Elementary School to Lanier Elementary School. Lanier Elementary School has a capacity of 788 with a current enrollment of 549 students.

The Hall County Board of Education invites the public to attend these hearings and comment on these
plans. All speakers will be asked to sign in prior the beginning of the meeting and only those who have signed in prior to the meeting will be allowed to speak.
