Hall County Commissioners on (HCC) Monday will consider nearly $3.9 million in state transportation grants for two traffic and pedestrian improvement projects.
At a 3:00 work session, they will be asked to ratify applications for funding through the state Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement, or CMAQ, program.
The larger request seeks about $2.5 million to begin preliminary engineering work on intersection improvements at McEver Road and Chamblee Road and McEver Road and Radford Road.
A second application seeks $1.35 million for preliminary engineering of the proposed Gateway Pedestrian Bridge spanning Mundy Mill Road.
If the grants are awarded, Hall County would be responsible for a 20% local match on each, meaning taxpayers would contribute about $500,000 toward the McEver Road project and roughly $270,000 toward the pedestrian bridge project. The state would cover the remaining 80%.
Both requests are for the preliminary engineering phase, meaning the funding would be used for planning, design and engineering work rather than actual construction.
Together, the two applications represent $3.85 million in potential state funding and would require a combined local match of approximately $770,000.
The meeting will be streamed on this website.
