6 A.M. TODAY UPDATE:
Hall County Commissioners last night voted to extended moratoriums on data centers and detention centers another 180 days, the latter having been initiated by the controversial plans by the federal government to locate one in South Hall.
The board also denied a request to expand The Ark on Lake Lanier.
Final approval was given to the new tax rates which include decreases for property owners in unincorporated and incorporated areas of the county (new rates 7.7 vs. 7.8 and 8.0 vs. 8.1, respectively), except Gainesville where an increase from 3.7 to 4.1 mills was okayed. Commissioners pointed out that the rate had not been raised since 2018.
And commissioner, as expected, approved a newly formed planning commission which will begin work Nov. 1, replacing the one that was disbanded last year when several members were charged with violating the state’s opening meetings law.
