HCC forging ahead with plans to locate new courthouse downtown

After several months of talk and speculation among themselves and hearing from the public on whether a new county courthouse should be built downtown, Hall County Commissioners (HCC) appear ready to take the next step.

Tuesday’s agenda for a commission work session includes “approval and authorization for the Chairman to execute a resolution ratifying the purchase of 0.04 acres of real property located at 509 & 511 Main Street…for the sum of $1.575 million.”

It specifies that the purchase is “for the purpose of a parking deck in connection with the Hall County Judicial Complex Expansion.” The estimated to cost construct is, as proposed, is $32 million and it would have 900 parking spaces.

No vote can be taken at the meeting. None could be taken until Thursday at the earliest when the commissioners will meet again in a voting session.
