HB 581 opt out resolution ready for GBOE

A resolution for the Gainesville City School System (GCSS) to opt out of the new state tax reform law, HB 581, is expected to be presented to the school board Monday night by Supt. Jeremy Williams.

Several local governing boards and others around the state have already opted out, are planning to, or are considering it.

Also on the agenda is the setting of qualifying fees for this year’s city school board elections. As a result, some state lawmakers are considering trying to get the law amended to make participation mandatory.
