Hall nonprofits benefit from JEMC grants

Two nonprofits serving people in Hall County are included in the latest round of Jackson EMC Foundation grants.

Step by Step Recovery is the recipient of $15,000. The addiction recovery organization provides a “safe and structured” environment for men and women in Hall, Barrow and Gwinnett counties as they complete a 12-step program for drug and alcohol addiction.

Ferst Readers of Hall County is getting $10,000. It is a group “focused on addressing the growing problem of children, many from low-income communities, entering kindergarten without basic literacy skills and school readiness.” The grant will help fund 476 children participating in its Improving Childhood Literacy Program.

In addition, Individual Grant Recipients include a Hall County family with three disabled children. A $5,000 grant will help with the purchase of a handicap accessible vehicle, according to Jackson EMC.
