Hall National Day of Prayer set for May 2

Hall County’s annual National Day of Prayer observance, Prayer on the Square, will be held May 2.

It begins at noon and is a part of the National Day of Prayer and will be preceded by a prayer breakfast that morning at the Gainesville Civic Center 6:30-8:15. Tickets for the breakfast are $20 and will be available at the door.

People attending the midday Prayer in the Square will be asked to pray over eight topics that impact the United States:

  • The church
  • Government
  • Family
  • Education
  • Business
  • Military
  • Media
  • Life

The National Day of Prayer dates before the country’s founding. The Continental Congress proclaimed setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, under President Truman, Congress established an annual Day of Prayer. Later, in 1988, President Reagan amended the law, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday of May
