First-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in Hall County rose by 117.6% in June compared to May, according to the state Department of Labor (GDOL). Compared to a year ago, they were up 18.7%.
But Hall County wasn’t the only place in the state recording triple-digit numbers in June over May. Here’s a sampling:
*Floyd County (Rome): 185.4%
*Troup County (LaGrange): 104.1%
*Murray County (Chatsworth): 137.1%
The reason for these increases? A combination of things, including seasonal hiring patterns and job losses in certain sectors of the economy.
