Hall Co. to host open house for RR crossing project

Hall County Government will host a public information open hours 5:00-7:00 Oct. 13 to gather public input on potential safety and traffic improvements at the Navajo Circle railroad crossing in Gainesville.

The open house will be held at the Sandra Dunagan Deal Elementary School, located at 2850 Ramsey Road. The public may drop in at any time during the two-hour event.

The county is currently in the planning and concept phase of the project, which is evaluating ways to improve safety and traffic flow at the Navajo Circle intersection and its at-grade crossing with Norfolk Southern Railway. The crossing is routinely blocked by train traffic for extended periods, resulting in traffic delays and backups and creating concerns related to safety and emergency response.

Potential alternatives being studied include a bridge that would carry traffic over the railroad tracks. The planning effort is intended to identify improvements that could enhance safety and mobility, reduce emergency response delays and minimize crossing incidents.

“As this area continues to grow, the impacts of delays at this crossing have become increasingly important to address,” Public Works and Utilities Director Jorge Gomez said. “We are still in the planning phase, and public feedback is an important part of evaluating potential solutions and understanding the needs and concerns of the community.”

The open house will be informal, with no formal presentation planned. Hall County Engineering staff will be available throughout the event to share information about the project, answer questions and receive public input. Attendees may submit written comment cards or provide verbal comments to a court reporter at the meeting.

Comments will also be accepted through Friday, Oct. 23. Online comments and additional project information are available at www.hallcounty.org/Navajo. Written comments may also be mailed or emailed to:
