Hall Co. set to celebrate opening of new library

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled Saturday marking the opening of the new East Hall Library.

“We are so excited to celebrate this milestone with the community,” Hall County Library System Director Lisa MacKinney said a month ago in announcing plans for Saturday’s activities. “This new branch will not only serve as a much-needed public space for citizens in the area, but it will also include unique amenities that can’t be found at any of our other five branches.”

The facility is a 9,300-square-foot addition to the East Hall Community Center at 3911 P Davidson Rd., creating a shared destination where residents can access library resources, recreation and community programming in one convenient location. The new branch features:

· Thousands of books

· High-speed internet/Wi-Fi

· Ample public computers

· Makerspace

· Podcast studio

· Library of Things

· Designated children and teen areas

· Wraparound porch

“The success of the technology center at the North Hall Community Center showed us how valuable it is to combine these community resources in one place,” MacKinney said.

The grand opening celebration will feature activities for all ages, including library tours, makerspace demonstrations, Elephant & Piggie storytimes with character meet-and-greets (11 a.m. and 1 p.m.), interactive crafts, live music, giveaways, refreshments and more.

“Our staff has been hard at work to plan a special day for the Hall County Library System and the families we serve, so we hope citizens will take advantage of this incredible opportunity to make memories with us and their loved ones,” MacKinney said.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 10:00 and the activities will be ongoing until 2:00.
