UPDATE: Serious injuries in Habersham wreck

UPDATE: The state patrol said Saturday afternoon the driver was seriously injured.

EARLIER STORY: A Habersham County road was closed for seven hours late Friday following a one-vehicle accident.

HABERSHAM CO. NEWS RELEASE:

“Habersham County E-911 was notified about 6:10 p.m. Friday of a wreck involving a broken power pole on Ga. 115 at mile marker 2.

The driver involved was trapped after the Ford F-150 pickup truck struck a power pole then an embankment at a creek.

Units from Habersham County Emergency Services and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office responded, freeing the injured driver, with Med 16 transporting him emergent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Gainesville.

Several other vehicles sustained minor damage as a utility line fell across Ga. 115, but none of the occupants of those was injured.

Habersham Electric Membership Corporation crews responded and worked for hours to repair the damage.

Habersham County Emergency Services Engine 13, Engine 16, Med 16, Battalion 1, Captain 1, and PIO responded, along with numerous units from the sheriff’s office.

Emergency Services units were released just before 8 p.m., while sheriff’s units returned to service at 9:15 p.m.

In total, Ga. 115 was shut down for more than seven hours between Fairview School Road and Ga. 105 while crews repaired damaged utilities.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews placed barricades to allow utility personnel to perform their work.”
