Habersham getting $2.5M federal grant for new EOC

Habersham County has been awarded $2.5 million in
federal funding for the construction of a new Emergency Operations
Center (EOC).

This investment will be combined with previously allocated
SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds dedicated specifically
to the project. “With rising construction costs impacting projects nationwide,
the federal grant will play a vital role in ensuring the successful completion
of the facility and enhancing the county’s ability to serve its residents and
support its workforce,” said county spokeswoman Ashlyn Brady.

The project was originally planned in 2018, prior to
post-COVID inflation, and has since expanded to include both 911
operations and the Emergency Operations Center within the same facility.

“This could possibly allow us to use funding to purchase much needed
equipment or reallocate additional SPLOST funding to renovate fire stations
throughout the county, but we will not know until after all the bidding of the
building is complete,” Brady added.
