*Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson is suing the state over a new law making several county offices nonpartisan. The bill removes party labels from ballots for district attorney and other county races in Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties beginning in 2028. Austin-Gatson argues the law unfairly singles-out the five metro Atlanta counties, limits available information for voters, and is racially discriminatory.
*Five people are in custody after a fight at a Coweta County high school football game. The Sheriff’s Office says three young men, ages 16, 17, and 18, fought during Friday night’s game between Newnan High School and East Coweta High School. School officials say deputies quickly stopped the fight before investigators found a gun on the ground. Authorities say the gun was not fired and officials are working to determine who had it. No major injuries were reported, and authorities have not said whether anyone will be formally charged.
*The Cyclospora outbreak linked to recalled iceberg lettuce imported from Mexico has spread to Georgia. The CDC confirms that and notes that there have now been more than 11,000 cases reported nationwide in 20 states which has led to nearly 500 hospitalizations and two deaths.
