G’ville woman among six motorists involved in crash on I-985

The state patrol late Monday afternoon released details of a six-vehicle crash on I-985 that left a Pennsylvania man with a “possibly serious injury” and closed a section of the road for more than an hour.

GEORGIA STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“On Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 PM, Troopers responded to a multivehicle crash on I-985 in the area of Atlanta Hwy.

The investigation showed an Acura MDX was traveling northbound on I-985 in the left lane. The driver, 25-year-old Jacob Heine from Buckhead, Ga, struck the rear of a Honda Civic, driven by 22-year-old Joshua Szabo from Quaker Town, Pa.

A Nissan Armada, driven by 41-year-old April Carroll from McDonough, Ga, had traveled partially onto the shoulder of the roadway due to traffic rapidly slowing to avoid hitting another vehicle. The Civic sideswiped the Armada and continued forward.

The Civic then struck the rear right corner of an Audi A8, driven by 38-year-old Marius Stan from Gainesville, Ga.

The Civic then began to rotate counterclockwise, and struck the rear of Ford Dually Superduty, driven by 45-year-old Edgar Gomez Aviles from Canoga Park, Ca, in the right lane.

The collision with the Superduty caused it to strike the rear of a Nissan Sentra, driven by 51-year-old Jose Rodriguez Jaimes Sr. from Commerce, Ga.

Mr. Szabo sustained possible serious injury and was transported to the hospital to be treated.

I-985 was closed for approximately an hour and a half for the investigation and cleanup.”
