Gville unemployment holding steady

Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.3 percent in February, unchanged from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 2.6 percent.

The labor force increased by 880 and ended the month at 114,033, an all-time high. That number went up by 4,716 when compared to February of 2023. The number of jobs totaled 109,200, up by 500 from January and 5,200 compared to a year ago.

In the 13-county Georgia Mountains Region, which includes Gainesville, the jobless rate remained the same as January’s – 2.6 percent. In the Northeast Georgia Region, which also includes some cities and towns in our area, the rate was down in February by one-tenth of a percent compared to January. It now sits at 2.9 percent.
