Gville Red Lobster survives 2nd round of closings

Red Lobster announced another round of closings Thursday including four restaurants in Georgia. But just like the first time, the Gainesville location (pictured) was not on the list.

Restaurants in Columbus, Jonesboro, Rome and Smyrna will, however, be closing. Four Georgia stores were on the first list which was announced the middle of May.

The latest list covers 132 locations in 31 states.

The Florida-based seafood chain has been struggling with rising lease and labor costs. However, shortly after filing for bankruptcy a few weeks ago, the company issued a statement says it was not going out of business.

“Bankruptcy is a word that is often misunderstood. Filing for bankruptcy does not mean we are going out of business. In fact, it means just the opposite,” the statement said in part. “It is a legal process that allows us to make changes to our business and our cost structure so that Red Lobster can continue as a stronger company going forward. As many of you know, we recently made the tough decision to close a number of our restaurants.”
